'Digital Fortress' by Dan Brown (http://danbrown.com/)
Completed reading the 'Book Digital Fortress' by Dan Brown- Reading a book after so many years was a challenge, but the sheer determination and the insights into finer aspects of cyber security , woven inside a story, pushed me towards completion. Amazing that the author could write so much on virus, worms and cryptography even in 1998, though some of the suspense could be guessed. Knowledge like prime numbers and Atomic weights could deter a reader but then those were included finely as part of the story. People associate with and practicing cyber security personnel , perhaps, will enjoy the finer aspects more. Many lessons learnt from the wonderful book and one such is 'Never take on a 320 page book', assuming the reading and memory skills of early years !!!

' SCION OF IKSHVAKU' by Amish Tripathy
Some points that impressed me and some that set me thinking:
சுஜாதா என்ற , அளவோடு கொண்டாடப்பட்ட , எழுத்தாளரின் அறிவு விஸ்தாரணத்தைக் காட்டும் பல கட்டுரைகள் கொண்ட ஒரு அபாரமான புத்தகம்.
கேள்விகள் நிறையக் கேட்கும் இக்கால இளைய தலை முறைக்கு இங்கு உள்ள பல பதில்கள் /விளக்கங்கள் திருப்தி அளிக்கும் என்றே தோன்றுகிறது.
என் தலைமுறையில் பெரியவர்கள் எது சொன்னாலும் கேள்வி கேட்காமல் ஏற்றுக் கொள்ளும் பக்குவத்திலுருந்து, இந்தத் தலைமுறையினர் எதையும் தெளிவாக்கிக் கொண்டுதான் நம்பவோ பின்பற்றவோ தொடங்குவதற்கு பல பதில்கள் இந்தப் புத்தகத்தில் உள்ளது.
நான் படித்து என்னைக் கவர்ந்த, ஈர்த்த சில குறிப்புகளை இங்கே, என் வலைப்பக்கத்தில், பதித்துள்ளேன். படித்து நம்புபவர்கள் நம்பலாம், பின் பற்றுபவர்கள் பின் பற்றலாம், மற்றவர்கள் நகரலாம் :

Back to reading of hard copy books. Just started Dan Brown's novel "Angels and Demons".

நேற்று படித்து முடித்த பாலகுமாரனின் புத்தகம் " என்றென்றும் அன்புடன்...."
நான் பாலகுமாரனுக்கு புதியவன் அல்ல- பரிசயமானவன் தான். 1984ல் இருந்த எழுத்துக்கும் இன்றைய தினத்துக்கும் நிறைய வேறுபாடுகள் இருக்கின்றன. இருக்க வேண்டியதுதான் முறையும் கூட.
அன்னாரின் எழுத்து என்றுமே சக்தி வாய்ந்தவை. இரும்புக் குதிரையிலிருந்து இன்று வரை, அவர் எழுத்தின் வேகத்தில் படிப்பவருக்கும் மூச்சு வாங்கும், கொஞ்சம் நின்று இளைப்பாறத் தோன்றும். இத்தனை வருடங்களுப்பின்னும், அதே வேகம் பார்ப்பது, அவரின் எழுத்துக்கு இன்னும் வயசாகவில்லை என்று தெரிகிறது.
முதல் பார்வையில் படித்து முடித்தவுடன் தோன்றியது- ஒரு நல்ல கதையைப் படித்தேன் என்றும் சொல்ல முடியவில்லை. ஒரு நல்ல எழுத்தாளனை ரசித்தேன் என்றும் சொல்ல முடியவில்லை.
எழுதிட்ட சில விஷயங்கள் நம்புவதற்க்குக் கொஞ்சம் கடினமாக இருந்தது. ஒரு சினிமாவில் நாயகனும் , நாயகியும் கலந்து பாடுவதை ஒப்புக் கொண்டால் இதில் ஒன்றும் நெருடலில்லை. ஆனால் இதெல்லாம் சாத்தியமா? எந்த விகிதாச்சாரத்துக்குச் சாத்தியம் என்று நினைக்கத் தோன்றுகிறது!
பட்டவர்த்தனத்துக்கும், ஆபாசத்துக்கும் ஒரு நூலிழை தான் வேறுபாடு. ஒரு எழுத்தாளர், கத்தி மேல் நடப்பது போல பயணப் பட வேண்டும். இந்தப் புத்தகத்தில் கொஞ்சம் கத்தியிலிருந்து சறுக்கி லேசான காயம் பட்டிருக்குமோ என்று தோன்றுகிறது- சில இடங்களில் தவிர்க்கக் கூடிய எழுத்து விரசம்.
கொஞ்சம் அஜீரணத்துடன் தான் அடுத்த நூலுக்கு நகர்கிறேன்.

Completed reading the book Bankster, by Ravi Subramanian, yesterday.
This is incidentally, the first eBook purchased by me through online.
This also being my first reading of this author, I enjoyed reading this work. As the story is woven around banking, knowledge of banking would enhance the reader's interest and also aid towards better understanding of the scenarios.
At times, the author attempts to wrap too many things under cover in the name of suspense, which leads to some mild confusions in the understanding.
Story also reminded me of the Tamil movie Ayan along with protests against nuclear plants in thickly populated human habitats and the author has cleverly used his banking background and knowledge to spin a thriller around these.
Definitely worth a read and am looking forward to reading many more from this author.

' SCION OF IKSHVAKU' by Amish Tripathy

- It is interesting to note the author's use of words such as 'flying vehicle' and 'Scorched earth policy' in the age of Rama
- 'Somras' was considered as the mysterious 'anti- aging' drink !
- She made her decision ' Ram was born a minute before midday" - Was history 'created'?
- 7032 - Manu calendar year in which Rama was born
- Withholding the truth is different from lying - Sage Vasishta
- People who compel their leaders to lie, are not worth fighting for - Rama
- How can the land belong to any of us? We belong to the land !
- Laws are the foundation on which a fulfilling life is built for a community. Laws are the answer
- "I have not lied. I have just not revealed the truth. There is a difference' - Vasishta
- Brilliant narrative of the preparation for a combat , by Rama , was well described by Amish Tripathy - P53

சுஜாதாவின் ' சும்மாவா சொன்னாங்க'

நண்பனின் உதவியால் கவிஞர் வாலியின் 'வாலிப வாலி' புத்தகம் படித்தேன்.
தனக்கென்று ஒரு தனி இடத்தைப் பிடிக்க அவர் பட்ட பாடு.... வேதனை

Loved this book for the sheer narrating pleasure. The author virtually walks the reader through the nuances of flying an airplane
2. SEVEN MINUTES -IRWING WALLACE
Yet another great story teller. Argues how a book alone cannot drive a person to commit sexual crimes. Court room scenes are gems
3. THE LAST LECTURE by RANDY PAUSCH
It is said that the legendary KING PARIKSHIT was cursed to die in the next seven days and hence heard the great Bhagavatham. On a similar vein, a person who has realised that he will soon die because of his terminal illness has given a a series of lectures, written in a very simple language. a wonderful book to read
4. ILLUSIONS by Richard Bach
Read some 30+ years back and could even now recall the words !
5. WHO WILL CRY WHEN YOU DIE -ROBIN SHARMA
Though the title looks a bit philosophical, the simple chapters are thought provoking and would egg the reader to take the life head on
6. RAGE OF ANGELS - SYDNEY SHELDON
Another master story teller- this book is full of ideas as to how one could think better even at the worst of your times. Outwardly, may look like a book of con games, but a brilliant novel
7. Sujatha's 'VIVAADANGAL VIMARSANANGAL' - will depict the versatility of his mind
8. FREEDOM AT MIDNIGHT
This cannot be swept away as the story of our freedom struggle. Gives a great narrative of the personalities behind the struggle and this along with the movie GANDHI by Richard Attenborough , goes to show how non Indians could throw better light of happenings in India than our own authors. Almost read the book in one go in a couple of days.
9. UNPOSTED LETTER
A simple book by T.T.Ranga Rajan (now calls himself as 'RA')- wonderful points to pep, teach and guide you . A book one MUST possess
10. PACHAI VAYAL MANADHU By Balakumaran
